COLUMBIA CO., OR – A wrong-way collision along the highway in northwest Columbia County claimed one person Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Highway 30 at mile marker 62 near the city of Clatskanie. This is about an hour northwest or Portland.
Police say that for unknown reasons, an eastbound VM Jetta entered the westbound side of the highway and crashed head-on into an eastbound Ford F-350 hauling a camping trailer.
The driver of the Jetta, identified as 48-year-old Daren McLeod, died at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained only minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
