Narrative
MARION COUNTY, OR – A two-vehicle collision Tuesday evening west of Salem claimed the life of a 41-year-old woman and left at least another seriously injured.
Oregon State Police responded to the scene on State Highway 22 (Salem Dallas Highway) at Oak Grove Road, shortly before 6:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that a 53-year-old local resident was driving a Ford Expedition westbound on OR-22. A 73-year-old woman behind the wheel of a Chrysler Sebring entered the path of the Ford when she tried to make a left turn from OR-22 onto Oak Grove Road.
Moments later, the Ford collided with the passenger side of the Chrysler, killing the 41-year-old woman, another Salem resident who was a passenger in the car.
The driver of the Chrysler, who suffered serious injuries, was rushed to an area hospital, along with the Ford driver, who sustained minor injuries.
An investigation was in progress, but OSP have identified the unsafe turn as the main contributing factor in the crash.
