Narrative
DOUGLAS COUNTY, OR – A 31-year-old Eagle Point resident lost their life Sunday morning, June 9, as a result of a single-vehicle rollover crash off Highway 230 near northeast Prospect.
Oregon State Police were called to the scene near milepost 10, a little south of Muir Creek Trailhead.
Officials say a 24-year-old Portland resident was operating a Ford F150 southbound when the vehicle traveled off the southbound shoulder of the highway while trying to make a left turn. The Ford appeared to have overcorrected and traveled across the entire roadway before flipping multiple times down an embankment and landing on its passenger side.
The victim, who was a passenger in the vehicle and who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected during the crash. They were pronounced deceased at the scene.
First responders rushed the male driver to an area hospital for an unspecified injury.
The highway was at least partially blocked for more than 4 hours as crews cleared the scene and an investigation was launched.
At this time, speed and “occupant safety” by way of the seatbelt are believed to have been factors in the fatal wreck.
